Welcome to the first post of the new Broadway Cafe Society Blog!

When I launched Broadway Cafe Society.com in December 1, 2005, I was a total web design newbie — and it showed. The first website was a complete ugly ducking that was just begging to be morphed into a swan. Jump ahead 10 years, add some accumulated web design knowledge, and you have what you see today. Perhaps not a swan, but certainly its much more cleaned up cousin.

To mark our 10th Anniversary, I decided to look back at 10 years of Broadway musical history from several perspectives. In Part 1, I pulled covers from Playbill’s fantastic database (Playbill Vault.com) of all musicals that opened between December 1, 2005 to November 30, 2015, plus several shows due to open by the end of 2015. The musicals are organized alphabetically by calendar year, not theatrical seasons, and don’t include “plays with music” such as END OF THE RAINBOW or LADY DAY AT EMERSON’S BAR AND GRILL or concert events (i.e., LIZA’S AT THE PALACE, HUGH JACKMAN: BACK ON BROADWAY).

The links below each graphic lead to the show’s page at Playbill Vault.com. If you want to view the page, DON’T click the graphic. Only the text link goes to Playbill Vault.com.

December 2005

During Broadway Cafe Society.com’s inaugural month, two very different musicals made their debut.  One celebrated the outstanding career of a Broadway living legend and the other an Oscar-winning film.
